Dr Christopher (Chris) Dawson

SPECIAL INTERESTS IN ANAESTHESIA
Regional anaesthesia, paediatric anaesthesia, obstetric anaesthesia and neuro-anaesthesia

BACKGROUND
Dr Dawson grew up in New Zealand and completed undergraduate studies in computer science and biochemistry at the University of Otago, with further honours study at the Australian National University. Initially intending to pursue a career in computational bioscience he instead pivoted to medicine and completed a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery degree at the Australian National University, graduating in 2013. He commenced training in anaesthesia in 2017 at Concord Hospital in Sydney, followed by a return to New Zealand for provisional fellowship in Wellington Hospital in 2022 (sub-specialising in paediatric anaesthesia and neuro-anaesthesia). He was awarded his Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in 2022. Dr Dawson then did a further year of fellowship training in paediatric anaesthesia at Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH) in 2023, as well as a further 6 months of post-fellowship experience in the paediatric intensive care unit at QCH. He commenced as a Staff Specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 2024, and joined Wickham Terrace Anaesthesia in 2026. Dr Dawson works between RBWH and a range of private hospitals throughout Brisbane. Dr Dawson’s main interest in anaesthesia is regional anaesthesia and ultrasound, and he is active in teaching this both to trainees in his public practice and also in formal courses.

OTHER INTERESTS
Chris enjoys cooking, watching rugby and spending time with his family including two very young children. One day when the children are older he dreams of returning to some of his other hobbies such as music (piano and singing), languages (French and Spanish), mountain biking and hiking, and computer programming.
