BACKGROUND

Dr Samaan graduated with honours from The University of Newcastle School of Medicine and Public Health in 1998. After working in intensive care for 15 years at senior registrar level he completed his Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) and cardiac fellowship at The Princess Alexandra Hospital, with training in medical perfusion, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and transoesophageal echocardiogram (TOE).

Dr Samaan works in public practice as a Staff Specialist Cardiac Anaesthetist and Perfusionist at The Princess Alexandra Hospital and private practice at several hospitals throughout Brisbane. He is heavily involved in ECMO retrieval, crisis management training and registrar training and supervision.
