BACKGROUND
Dr Boyd completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 2003. He then began training his specialist anaesthetic training in 2006 in Glasgow, Scotland, then moved to Wellington, New Zealand to complete his Fellowship training. He completed his Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in 2012, achieving a merit award for excellence in his examination performance. During his time in Wellington Dr Boyd developed an interest in medical education using high fidelity simulation to improve the crisis management skills of Anaesthetists.
Dr Boyd then moved to Brisbane to undertake further training in paediatric anaesthesia and intensive care at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH). He continues to work in both public and private practice at The Queensland Children’s Hospital (LCCH) along with several other hospitals throughout Brisbane. Dr Boyd provides anaesthesia for a range of surgical specialities with a particular interest in Plastic Surgery, Paediatric Ophthalmic surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT and Paediatric Surgery. He is a member of a select group of anaesthetist’s that provide anaesthesia for paediatric liver transplant patients.
In 2015 Dr Boyd attended further medical simulation education training at Harvard University, Boston. He currently has a role at the Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH) organising departmental education and simulation based education training. He led the development of the Managing Emergencies in Paediatric Anaesthesia (MEPA) course for both registrars and consultants in Brisbane. Dr Boyd developed a Trauma Management education project that won the Quality Improvement and Innovation Award from the health board.
OTHER INTERESTS
In his spare time, Dr Boyd likes spending time with his wife and 3 young children. He also enjoys fishing, camping and hill walking.
