SPECIAL INTERESTS IN ANAESTHESIA
Anaesthesia for Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery, Structural Heart Interventions, Complex Spinal Surgery including Adolescent Scoliosis surgery, and Intraoperative Trans Oesophageal Echocardiography.
Dr Keys completed his undergraduate training in medicine at the University of Queensland in 1988, and subsequently spent five years in Rural Medicine in Central and Western Queensland. He developed an interest in anaesthesia providing relief cover for the Flying Surgical and Obstetric Services.
Dr Keys then began training in anaesthesia, obtaining his Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in 2000, and completed advanced training in Anaesthesia for Adult and Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at The Prince Charles Hospital.
Dr Keys entered Private Practice with Wickham Terrace Anaesthesia in 2001, and continued Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) sessions with Queensland Health until 2011, in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Medical Perfusion at Princess Alexandria Hospital (2001-2007), and the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (2001-2011).
Dr Keys completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Echocardiography at the University of Melbourne in 2007. He is currently the Director of Anaesthesia at St Andrews War Memorial Hospital Brisbane where he maintains a role in education and research.
Outside of medicine Dr Key’s enjoys as much family time as possible, all sports, fine dining and planning his family’s next travel adventure.
