Regional Anaesthesia and Medical Education
BACKGROUND
Dr Arnot-Smith graduated from the University of Queensland Medical School in 1995. He trained in anaesthetics and intensive care in Manchester in the UK from 1999 and was a consultant anaesthetist and intensivist at the Royal Bolton Hospital from 2010. He returned to Australia in 2018 and was admitted as a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in 2019, after which he took up consultant posts at Redcliffe and STARS Herston. He is currently acting clinical lead for paediatric anaesthesia at Redcliffe.
Dr Arnot-Smith’s practice includes anaesthesia for general surgery, orthopaedics, urology, gynaecology and district hospital-level paediatric surgery. He is enthusiastic about medical education and is an instructor on the EMAC (Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crises) course at Herston. As a senior lecturer at UQ he supervises medical students attached to the Redcliffe anaesthetic department.
OTHER INTERESTS
Outside of anaesthesia, Dr Arnot-Smith spends his time playing and listening to music, running 5Ks, and being entertained or annoyed by his three teenagers.
