BACKGROUND
Dr Maussen completed his undergraduate medical training at the University of Queensland, in 1996. He then undertook several years serving rural and remote communities, including Mt Isa, Cloncurry and Mornington Island before commencing anaesthetic training. He completed his specialist training in Queensland, obtaining his Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in 2005. He worked as a staff anaesthetist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) for 4 years before entering full-time private practice.

Dr Maussen’s practice includes a range of surgical specialties, including orthopaedics, ophthalmic’ s, maxillo-facial surgery, ENT surgery, spinal surgery, general surgery and breast and endocrine surgery.

Dr Maussen has extensive experience in teaching anaesthetic trainees and medical students, especially during his time at RBWH. He has also been involved in the governance of Wickham Terrace Anaesthesia, serving on its board for 4 years and obtaining a graduate certificate with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). During his time on the board, the practice was extensively modernised and updated.

OTHER INTERESTS
Outside of medicine, Dr Maussen participates in a range of activities, including cycling, swimming and running, as well as tennis and snow skiing. He enjoys photography and travelling with his family and has served on the board of directors of a start-up technology company.
